We are often asked what’s included in the rental of our homes. We never want anyone to be surprised or disappointed, so we try to let our guests know on several occasions what is and isn’t provided by us.
If you’ve never rented a private vacation home before, one important thing to know is that these are our personal homes and are decorated and outfitted in a manner we hope is appealing and comfortable for our guests. We’ve tried to provide more than basic amenities – largely based on our 20+ years in the vacation home rental business and our own travel experiences.
Renting a private home is different from staying in a hotel – we don’t have a 24-hour front desk, housekeeping or maintenance services. My husband and I and our very capable housekeepers and maintenance team will do our utmost to address any issues promptly but we ask for your patience and forbearance in the midst of that process. We also ask you to let us know immediately if something needs attention. Please don’t wait until you depart to let us know something was broken or not working during the entirety of your stay!
Another difference from a hotel stay is we expect you to provide most of the items you will need during your stay. This is the norm for beach rentals at Surfside Beach. For example, you will need to provide your own sheets and towels (although we are more than happy to arrange for a rented linens package for a reasonable fee), your own paper products (beyond our starter pack), your own cleaning products (dishwashing soap, detergent, shampoo, body wash, etc.), your own beach chairs and toys and of course your own food.
(Guests sometimes leave behind non-perishable items and beach items – you are free to use anything you find in the home but we can’t guarantee anything from guest to guest.)
We will be in contact with you several times before your arrival date, providing pertinent information about travel insurance, equipment & linen rentals, beach safety, etc. Then, about 10 days prior to your arrival, we will email a very detailed Welcome Packet which will include lots of information about what to expect upon your arrival, during your stay and upon departure.
At that time, we will also include instructions on where and how to access the house keys.
So, what will you find inside each house?
For the bedrooms, we provide pillows, mattress pads, blankets and comforters/bedrooms. Mattresses and pillows are encased in protective coverings. Unless you’ve chosen to rent linens, you will need to bring your own sheets and towels, including hand towels, wash cloths and beach towels. We do provide bath mats for each bathroom. We do NOT provide hair dryers.
We provide a starter pack of paper products (1 roll of paper towels and at least one roll of toilet paper per bathroom), a few dishwasher pods and bars of hand soap for each sink. These complimentary items are provided as a convenience for when you first arrive. Additional supplies will be your responsibility.
Our kitchens are usually well stocked with a good variety of cooking and serving utensils, pots & pans, serving bowls and platters, dishcloths, potholders, flatware, dishware, glassware, handheld can opener and a corkscrew. Standard appliances include a refrigerator with icemaker, microwave, ceramic cooktop stove, blender, 4-slice toaster, Mr. Coffee style coffee maker and a Crockpot. If you require specialty items, such as kitchen scales or food processors, it is best to bring your own. I always tells guests if there is a “can’t live it without” item you need for cooking, bring your own!
Each house has a full-size HE washer and dryer. We provide an iron and ironing board. We do not provide laundry detergent or other related supplies.
The pools have lounge chairs and small tables. We do not provide beach chairs, beach towels or toys. Those items can be purchased locally at Walmart, Target, all grocery stores and the wide array of souvenir shops.
